Description

Reading Crematorium

Overview

Reading Crematorium serves families across Reading and the wider Berkshire area with respectful and dignified cremation services.

The facility sits within the grounds of Henley Road Cemetery in the Caversham area and provides a calm and thoughtful setting for funeral ceremonies, remembrance and visitors.

The crematorium complements the cemetery grounds, which include mature trees, landscaped lawns and peaceful pathways that help create a tranquil environment for both services and private reflection.

Chapel Facilities

Reading Crematorium features two chapels that support a range of service styles:

South Chapel

  • Larger chapel suitable for traditional services

  • Seating available for up to 100 people

West Chapel

  • Smaller chapel ideal for intimate gatherings

  • Seating for around 36 people

Both chapels include modern audio-visual facilities, allowing families to include chosen music, readings and tributes during the service. Seating layouts support a smooth flow for attendees before and after the ceremony.

Gardens and Grounds

The crematorium lies within the wider cemetery grounds, which offer well-tended lawns and garden areas. A Garden of Remembrance provides a peaceful space for quiet visits, reflection and the scattering of ashes, according to family wishes.

A Book of Remembrance is available for families to view memorial entries and pay tribute to loved ones throughout the year.

Reading Crematorium provides a range of facilities to support visitors:

  • Waiting room adjacent to the chapels with seating and refreshments

  • Accessible toilets, including facilities for disabled visitors

  • Induction loop systems in the chapels for hearing aid users

  • Funeral service books in Braille where required

The grounds and chapels offer step-free access in key areas, with ramping provided where needed to support ease of movement for all visitors.
